Privacy, the short version.

We are a directory. You don't need an account to use us, and you don't have to tell us your birthday to see who's giving away free chips. The only personal information we hold directly is what you give us — your email address and a message, sent through the contact form. Google Analytics also processes pseudonymous data about visits and selected actions, including pages read, searches made, retailer links opened, deals added to shortlists, and calendar reminders downloaded.

Your shortlist itself is stored only in your own browser— we can't read its current contents, and clearing your browser data deletes it. Google Analytics can receive a per-deal event when you add an offer, associated with pseudonymous browser and session identifiers, but it never receives your full current list. If you download a birthday calendar reminder, it's generated as a file right in your browser: analytics records only that a download occurred, not the birthday or state you entered.

Information you choose to give us

• Your name (optional), email address, and the topic you choose — when you contact us through the contact form.
• The contents of any message you send through the contact form.

Information collected automatically

• Google Analytics — uses cookies and pseudonymous browser and session identifiers to measure page views, searches, retailer-link clicks, shortlist additions, reminder downloads, referrers, approximate location and device type. A search includes the words searched for and how many results were shown; a term that looks like an email address, phone number or date is replaced before it is sent. A shortlist addition includes the deal ID, title, store, category and, when available, the estimated deal value. We do not send your birthday, selected state, contact-form contents or complete saved list to analytics.
• Standard server logs — our hosting provider records request metadata such as IP address, user agent and request time, retained for a short period for security and abuse prevention.
• Advertising data— collected by Mediavine, not by us. Mediavine serves the ads on this site, and to do that Mediavine and its advertising partners use cookies and similar identifiers and may collect device and browsing data (such as IP address, pages viewed and interactions with ads). We don't receive that data about you as an individual — only aggregate earnings and performance reports. See Sharing and third parties for the detail, the full partner list and the opt-outs.

Birthday reminder

Generated as a calendar (.ics) file in your browser if you ask for one. The birthday you enter is never stored or sent to us.

• Payment details — we don't process payments.
• Government identifiers, tax numbers, or any sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act.
• Cross-site advertising profiles or fingerprinting signals built by us. We don't build audience profiles, and nothing you send us through the contact form is passed to an ad platform. What Mediavine and its advertising partners collect through the ads themselves is a separate matter, described in Sharing and third parties.

• To respond when you write to us.
• To understand which articles and deals get read, so we can prune dead ones and add useful ones.
• To keep the site secure and operational.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we never email you marketing on behalf of a third party. The site does carry Mediavine ads, which is how it pays for itself — we don't hand Mediavine your contact details to do it.

Our hosting provider serves the site and records request metadata.

Contact form

A third-party email service delivers your message to us, and a spam-protection tool guards the form from abuse.

Analytics

Google Analytics processes pseudonymous visit and action data to provide traffic and engagement measurement.

Advertising

Mediavine (Journey by Mediavine) serves the ads you see on the site, using cookies and similar identifiers.

These providers may process limited personal information outside Australia, including in the United States or other countries where their infrastructure and support teams operate. We choose established providers and rely on their security and privacy commitments.

We may disclose information if compelled by a valid Australian legal request, and we will tell you about it where lawfully possible.

Mediavine advertising, in detail

The ads on this site are served by Mediavine, through its Journey by Mediavine service. In doing so, Mediavine and its advertising partners use advertising cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies, and may collect data about your device and your browsing (including on other sites) to select the ads you see, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether they worked. Ads may be personalised — chosen using that data — or non-personalised, chosen from context such as the page you're reading, with limited data still used for frequency capping and fraud prevention. That processing is Mediavine's and its partners', under their own terms, not ours.

Consent choices for advertising cookies and personalised ads — including the choices shown to readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — are presented and recorded by the consent management platform (CMP) built into Mediavine's ad script. We don't run a separate consent banner of our own. The full list of Mediavine's advertising partners, each with its own privacy policy, is published at mediavine.com/ad-partners.

Blocking or clearing cookies in your browser also limits this, and you may see ads either way — just less relevant ones.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

• IP Address
• Operating System type
• Operating System version
• Device Type
• Language of the website
• Web browser type
• Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

We use localStorage for the saved deals described above, and a birthday calendar reminder is built in your browser on request. The stored list, birthday and state are not sent to our servers. Google Analytics does not receive the full saved list, but it can receive the identity of each deal when it is added; reminder analytics records only that a download occurred.

The cookies used on the site come from the third-party tools described above, and fall into two groups:

Analytics cookies

Set by Google Analytics to distinguish pseudonymous visitors and sessions and measure traffic and engagement — page views, retailer-link clicks, shortlist additions, reminder downloads, referrers and device type.

Advertising cookies

Set by Mediavine and its advertising partners to serve ads, cap how often you see the same one, and personalise them where that applies. See Sharing and third parties for what Mediavine collects and how to opt out.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings; the site still works without them, and you can opt out of personalised ads without losing anything else.

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can ask us to:

• Confirm what information we hold about you.
• Correct it, if it's wrong.
• Delete it — for example, a message you've sent us.
• Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you're unhappy with our response.

We hold as little as we can. Server logs are kept for a short period. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to resolve your enquiry, then deleted.

We use commercially reasonable measures to protect data in transit and at rest, but no system is perfectly secure — please don't send us anything sensitive you wouldn't write on a postcard.

The site is intended for a general audience, but we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we'll remove it.

When we make a material change we'll update the Last reviewed date at the top of this page.
